Corticobasal syndrome

The corticobasal syndrome is a progressive neurological disorder that leads to the deterioration of Certain areas of your brain. The initial sign is often trouble moving one limb. The movement difficulty gradually spreads to all limbs.

This syndrome is more common in people who are between 50 to 70 years old. It affects roughly 5 in 100,000 people.

Symptoms

Symptoms vary, but may include:

  • Tremor
  • progressive stiffness of muscles
  • Brief muscle spasms
  • Inability to make voluntary movements
  • Speech and language problems
  • Involuntary muscle contraction

Treatment

There is currently no treatment to help slow down the progression of the corticobasal syndrome. Parkinson’s may be administered to help manage stiffness in some people.
