What is Parkinsonism?

Vascular parkinsonism

Vascular parkinsonism is thought to be caused by multiple small strokes in the part of your brain that controls movement. It is identified by parkinsonism symptoms mostly in the lower limbs and an unsteady gait in the absence of tremors.

Symptoms

  • Balance problems
  • Shuffling gait
  • Postural instability
  • Primarily lower body symptoms

Treatment

Vascular parkinsonism is typically poorly responsive to the medication levodopa. Treatment is aimed at each symptom. It would also involve physical therapy and lifestyle changes.
