Vitamin D deficiency is a high-risk factor of osteoporosis, Vitamin D helps the body in absorption of calcium. When vitamin D is not sufficient, the body cannot absorb adequate amounts of calcium to prevent osteoporosis. Vitamin D deficiency can result from a lack of intestinal absorption of the vitamin. Also, intake of food substances that have a lot of salt (sodium) causes the human body to lose calcium and this can lead to loss of bone.

Less and overconsumption of protein can also lead to calcium loss because protein supplied to the body must be moderate for bone health. Foods that are highly rich in oxalic acid such as spinach doesn’t allow the body to absorb calcium well and this dangerous for bone health. If your daily diet consists mainly of legumes, it can amount to poor nutrition for the bone. Legumes contain phytates, which interfere with the body’s ability to absorb calcium.
