Osteoporosis: Symptoms & Types

Is It Possible to Note Osteoporosis in Its Early Stages?

There are uncommon early, noticeable signs of bone loss due to osteoporosis. Sometimes, until most people break their hip, backbone, or hand, they may not realize they have fragile bones. However, some initial symptoms [4] may point to bone loss:

  • Receding gum

If your jaw bones is reducing, your gums will recede [5]. Talk to your dentist and ask for bone loss screening in the jaw.

  • Weaker grip power

Research [6] teams reported that low handgrip strength was related to bone mineral density after survey was carried out in postmenopausal women. Furthermore, lower grip strength might increase the risk of falling.

  • Weak and fragile fingernails

Bone health can be signaled by nail strength [7].  But outside factors such as swimming, gardening, and other exercises that can impact your nails and should thus, be also taken into account.

Other than bone density changes, osteoporosis typically does not cause a lot of early symptoms. Your best option for early-stage diagnosis is to go to your doctor, notably if you have a family background of osteoporosis.
