Osteoporosis: Symptoms & Types

Senile Osteoporosis

In old age, “senile osteoporosis” [12] may develop due to impaired absorption of calcium in the body and a deficiency of vitamin D necessary for bone tissue. Decreased growth, obvious stoop, and bulge behind the thoracic spine indicate the process of destruction and deformation of the spine

In senile osteoporosis, the loss of cortical bone tissue is prominent, predisposing to fractures in other bones that support weight, such as the neck of the femur.

To reduce the risk of osteoporosis, it is important that the person adopts good eating and living habits, so that they have a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, such as milk and derivatives, egg and fatty fish, since calcium it is a fundamental mineral for the skeletal formation process, in addition to ensuring bone strength and participating in muscle contraction, hormone release and blood clotting processes.

In the case of older people, it is important that the house is kept safe and optimized to avoid falls and reduce the risk of fractures, as it is normal for bone loss to occur during the aging process. Thus, it is recommended not to have rugs in the house and in the bathroom, to use non-slip floors and install protection bars.
