Symptoms and Diagnosis of Sarcoidosis

Diagnosis of Sarcoidosis

Diagnosis of sarcoidosis [11] begins with an external examination of the patient, questioning him for complaints, palpation of the lymph nodes. Given the rare nature of the disease, sarcoidosis is diagnosed after other pathologies with similar clinical manifestations have been excluded.

Methods for diagnosing sarcoidosis include:

  • Laboratory tests: A blood test is carried out for general indicators and biochemistry.
  • Hardware examinations: For visual detection of granulomas and assessment of changes in internal organs perform: X-ray, computed tomography, MRI, ultrasound, and radionuclide scanning are used. To identify various forms of pathology, different methods of instrumental diagnostics can be used: examination of the fundus, fibrogastroduodenoscopy (FGDS), ECHO-cardioscopy, ECG, MRI of the brain, bronchoscopy, etc.

To clarify the diagnosis, histological examination is also practiced after puncture of granulomas. The task of the attending physician is to detect all foci of inflammation in the body since the disease can be present not only in the lungs, but also in the spleen, liver, and lymph nodes. There is an assumption that people of mature age are more likely to suffer from sarcoidosis (although there are cases of the disease in all age groups); there is also an assumption that women are more likely to get sick.
