Shingles – Treatments, Possible Complications & Prevention

Conservative Treatment

Patients with severe forms of herpes zoster should be hospitalized in an infectious diseases hospital. The rest of the patients in the absence of serious concomitant conditions can be treated at home. Conservative treatment of shingles is done on the site of infection with sterile saline dressings to treat the itching associated with the disease. This is usually combined with topical analgesics like lignocaine and systemic analgesics usually deal with the pain associated with the condition.

For the purpose of non-specific prophylaxis of herpes zoster, one should try to lead a healthy lifestyle, eat a balanced and full-fledged diet, and avoid stressful situations.
