10 Possible Causes of Shoulder Blade Pain

Abdominal and Pelvic Causes

Abdominal or pelvic factors responsible for shoulder blade pain may include acid reflux, gastritis, inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract [3], ovarian cysts [4], ectopic pregnancy [5]. When shoulder blade pain occurs due to abdominal or pelvic causes, it is known as referred pain. This type of pain is rare in this area. However, it is still a possibility.

Cardiac Causes

While this may be rare, shoulder blade pain may occur due to cardiac conditions. Pain in the chest may also occur due to cardiac disorders. The most common reasons for pain in this region include myocardial infarction or heart attack, pericarditis [6], or aortic dissection.
