Hand Hygiene

According to studies, hand hygiene is one of the most important preventive measures for C. auris. It helps stop the transmission of germs in healthcare facilities. The CDC recommends using alcohol-based hand sanitizer to wash the hand regularly. You can use soap and warm water to wash your hands if they are visibly soiled.

Hospital staff must clean their hands before doing the following:

  • Eating
  • Entering and exiting a patient’s room
  • Touching a patient
  • Wearing gloves
  • Coming in contact with anything connected to the patient (catheter, IV tubing, pulse oximeter, etc.)

Hospital staff should also clean their hands after using the bathroom.
