Candida Auris: Symptoms, Causes, Treatment & Prevention

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Candida Auris can live on surfaces for weeks. Therefore, it is imperative to clean and disinfect surfaces and medical equipment regularly. Cleaning products should be disinfectant cleaners or sprays recommended by the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA).

The CDC advises healthcare providers to regularly disinfect the following:

  • High-touch surfaces (bedside tables and rails, windowsills, door knobs, etc.)
  • Shared or reusable equipment (ventilators, vital machines, nursing carts, etc.)
  • Any location where a patient receives care (patient rooms, radiology, physical therapy, etc.)

More research needs to be done to know if “no-touch” disinfectants, such as vaporized hydrogen peroxide [6] and ultraviolet (UV light) can treat Candida Auris.
