Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation [2] is when an injury or inflammatory skin condition leads to hyperpigmentation in black people.
Potential causes of PIH include:
- Eczema [3]
- Acne [4]
- Psoriasis
- Pseudofolliculitis barbae
- Lupus
- Certain Infection
- Lichen planus [5]
- Cuts
- Burns
- Insect bite
- Sores
- Some cosmetic product
If you observe a change in color on the site of an injury or inflammation on your skin after it heals, you may have PIH.
