Narcolepsy – Diagnosis & Treatment

Multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT) & Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS)

The multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) is also performed in a sleep disorder centre and requires an overnight stay. The test is usually carried out during the daytime. Usually, the next day after the PSG test was carried out. In the case of the multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), you will take five short naps that would be scheduled two hours apart. The purpose of this test is to help measure how quickly you fall asleep and how fast you enter REM sleep.

In a quest for your detailed sleep history, you would have to complete the Epworth sleepiness scale. The ESS is nothing serious. It is a simple questionnaire that request information on how likely you are to sleep in a different circumstance.
