Possible Complications
Acute catarrhal laryngitis proceeds favorably without causing complications. Purulent forms can be complicated by phlegmon (diffuse purulent inflammation) of the tissues of the neck and mediastinum, which in the most severe cases is dangerous by the development of septic processes in other organs.
One of the most common and dangerous complications of acute laryngitis is laryngeal stenosis. This complication is especially typical for children.
