Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is also called Acid Reflux, and it is when the stomach acid rises to reach the food pipe, thereby irritating the esophagus lining. This action causes a burning feeling in the chest (heartburn) that may last up to hours. It is normal to have acid reflux occasionally; however, when it becomes frequent – more than once in seven days, it may signify GERD [7]. Every time acid reflux occurs, it causes an irritation, which may induce nausea.
Pregnancy

Most pregnant women usually have nausea and vomiting during the first and second trimesters, also known as Morning Sickness [8]. This condition is due to sudden and frequent hormonal changes in the body like progesterone and estrogen. These hormones lower gastrointestinal muscle contractions; thereby, reducing bowel movements and inducing nausea and vomiting. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) [9] is another nausea-triggering hormone that increases in production immediately after conception.
