Bloating and Gas

People with irritable bowel syndrome often feel bloated. Bloating describes the accumulation of gas in the gut. This makes the abdomen appear swollen and is only relieved when the collected gas is passed out. It is uncomfortable and may be painful in some cases.
Bloating is caused by excess gas trapped in the gut. The reason people with irritable bowel syndrome often have excess gas is not clear, but it may be caused by problems with gut bacteria or a reduced ability to pass gas efficiently.
Bloating is one of the most common symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. A study of 337 patients with this condition found that 83 percent [9] of the participants experienced bloating.
