Preventing Abdominal Pain

Some types of stomach pain cannot be prevented. But you can reduce your chance of getting stomach pain by:

  • eating a balanced diet [6]
  • exercising frequently
  • consuming smaller meals
  • drinking lots of water

To reduce discomfort if you have an intestinal problem like Crohn’s disease, adhere to the diet your doctor has prescribed. Avoid eating within two hours of going to bed if you have GERD.

Abdominal ache and heartburn could result from lying down too soon after eating. Prior to lying down, try to wait at least two hours after eating.
