Types of Esophagitis

Eosinophilic esophagitis
Eosinophilic esophagitis occurs when there are too many too eosinophils in the esophagus. It is usually due to your body over respond to an allergen. This often results in difficulty eating in children. Common triggers of this condition include milk, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, and inhaled allergens, such as pollen, can also be a trigger.
Reflux esophagitis
Reflux esophagitis is usually due to a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) [2]. GERD is a condition that occurs when stomach contents like acids, frequently back up into the esophagus. This results in chronic inflammation and irritation of the esophagus.
Drug-induced esophagitis
Drug-induced esophagitis occurs when you take certain medications with enough water. Resulting in the medication lingering in the esophagus. Examples of these medications include Pain relievers [3], Potassium chloride, Antibiotics and Bisphosphonates.
Infectious esophagitis
Infectious esophagitis is a rare type and occurs due to bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. This condition is more common in people who have a weak immune system due to disease or medications. It is common in people with cancer [4], diabetes [5], and HIV [6].
