What Happens after Heat Stroke?

What you experience after heat stroke depends on certain factors, including:

  • How high your body temperature spike?
  • Age
  • How long your body temperature stay high before you received treatment

According to research, about 10 to 65% of people with non-exertional heat stroke die. The mortality rate for exertional heat stroke is between 3 to 5 percent. In some cases, you may experience permanent neurological disorders or organ damage.

During recovery, you may experience different changes in your body temperature for many days. Your healthcare provider will advise you to stay away from physical activities for a week. You will also need regular tests to examine your liver and kidney function. It may take a long time for temporary health complications to go away. Studies show that it is possible to develop the condition if you’ve had it once. Hence, it is important to always take preventive measures if you’re going to a hot place.
