When Should You Visit Your Doctor and How to Prevent Heatstroke?

If you have a history of heatstroke and are recovering, visit your healthcare provider immediately if you notice any of these:
- Cognitive dysfunction (problems thinking or remembering)
- Low urine output
- Liver or kidney problems
- Difficulty breathing
You can prevent heatstroke by:
- Not leaving children (or pets) in closed, hot spaces such as cars.
- Not engaging in tedious physical activity in hot, humid conditions.
- Consuming sports drinks lightly salted water or broth.
- Wearing loose-fitting, light-coloured, and lightweight clothing if you’ll be out in the heat.
- Gradually allow your body to get used to warm temperatures over several weeks if you’ll have to be in hot conditions for work or sports.
- Staying in air-conditioned or well-ventilated areas during heat waves.
