Low-dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy

Low-dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy is also known as permanent brachytherapy. Like HDR brachytherapy, the radioactive material is inserted into the prostate through a catheter.
Unlike HDR, the radioactive particle remains inside the body permanently after the catheters have been removed. The particle releases low-dose radiation for months or weeks, and the radiation particles don’t move far away. It only tackles the tumor affecting the surrounding tissues.
After a while, the radioactive material in the seeds runs out and the inert seeds remain in the body permanently. The number of seeds required for treatment usually depends on the size of your prostate. Studies show that it is usually about 100.
