High-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy

High-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, also known as temporary brachytherapy, provides a high amount of radiation in a short period. After the insertion of needles into the prostate, doctors remove the needles and leave the catheter in its position.
Doctors put radioactive materials inside the catheters. These materials remain inside the catheter and release radiation waves into the prostate gland for 5 to 15 minutes.
Your doctor may recommend 1-4 sessions a day. The duration of the therapy depends on your treatment plan. However, it is always for a short period.
