Heart Attack Symptoms in Women

Pain in The Neck, Jaw, or Back

Many people believe that pain preceding or during a heart attack will always be felt in the chest, but this is not true. Sometimes the pain of a heart attack is felt elsewhere, such as in the neck or jaw. The pain may also start in the chest and radiate from the arm to the back. In women, the pain can be felt in either arm, not only the left one as is the case with men. [4]

Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath feels like you are not getting enough air into your lungs. You will often find yourself needing to take deeper breaths. Depending on how serious it is, it might leave you wheezing or only become noticeable when you assume certain postures. The most noticeable sign you are short of breath is labored breathing.

Many people at risk of a heart attack feel short of breath, but this symptom is more likely to show up in women than men. [5] The difficulty breathing may become worse when you lie down and reduce when you sit up.
