Most Common Breastfeeding Problems and Solutions

Soreness of nipple

This is when the nipples feel sour after feeding when the nipples also look red and pointy instead of smooth and round. Nipple soreness occurs due to various factors like:

  • Bad feeding techniques
  • Lack of care for the nipples
  • Wrong positioning
  • Too dry or too moist skin
  • Chewing or biting of nipples by babies.
  • A bad latch on.

Solution: proper positioning while breastfeeding helps ease the soreness, break the suction gently with a finger before removing the baby. Start breastfeeding on the mammary gland with the least sore, apply a warm compress to the nipples and rub freshly expressed milk on the nipples to help it heal faster.
