What do the results mean?

After submitting your sample, your result will be sent to you after 2 to 4 weeks. Your healthcare provider will call you to discuss your results and its implications.
You may receive the following results after getting your sample:
- Positive: A recognized gene variation that makes you susceptible to breast cancer was detected.
- Negative: A recognized gene variation that increases your chances of developing breast cancer was not detected.
- Variant of unknown significance: A variant was found in a gene, such as BRCA1 [1] or BRCA2 [2], but its effects on breast cancer is unknown.
In some cases, the results of genetic testing can be complex. It would help to visit a genetic expert to help you understand what your result says, so you can plan for the next steps.
