What You Should Know about Bradykinesia?

What Are the Symptoms of Bradykinesia?

In most cases, symptoms of bradykinesia usually include slow or irregular movements. However, these symptoms can also occur in other conditions. The symptoms commonly associated with bradykinesia include:

  • Difficulty getting ready each day (e.g. styling hair, brushing teeth, and buttoning clothes)
  • Dragging one or both feet when walking
  • Having little or no facial expressions
  • Shuffling when walking
  • Inability to perform tasks that are repetitive in nature, such as clapping hands or tapping fingers.
  • Freezing, which involves slow muscle reactions. It can cause immobility of muscles for a certain period.

According to research, bradykinesia is the major cause of the slurred speech that occurs in people with Parkinson’s disease. Their voices get softer and softer after a while and they become difficult to understand.

Bradykinesia is also responsible for the constant falling that occurs in people with Parkinson’s disease.
