How to Become a Registered Nurse – Common Steps

- Finish an accredited nursing education program. You will need either a nursing diploma from a licensed RN program, an associate’s degree in nursing, or a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Prepared to sit for the nurse licensing exam.
- Write and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).
- Get licensure in the state where you want to practice. Each state has its own requirement.
Registered nurses are needed in every medical facility because they can give required first treatments to patients before a doctor intervenes. Registered nurses are a valuable asset to any medical team.
