Superficial Thrombophlebitis

Superficial thrombophlebitis is an inflammatory, short-term condition caused by a blood clot under your skin. Symptoms include pain, inflammation, redness or discoloration, warmth, hardening of a vein and darkening of your skin.
Superficial thrombophlebitis is a condition that is usually as a result of the insertion of an intravenous (IV) needle [5]. It may also result from varicose veins. Superficial thrombophlebitis has been studied to occasionally lead to a more serious complication called deep vein thrombosis [6]. You should always call a doctor if you suspect you have superficial thrombophlebitis.
