Probiotics are vital bacteria naturally seen in the gut. Supplements with these bacteria are associated with several health benefits, including reducing blood pressure.
In a review of 9 studies, probiotic supplements greatly reduced blood pressure levels, compared with control groups.
However, the researchers concluded that treatment was more potent when several strains of probiotics were taken, the supplements were used for 8 weeks or longer and daily dose was bigger than 10 billion colony-forming units (CFUs).
Notably, another review revealed that probiotic supplements greatly reduced blood pressure in people with high levels, compared with control groups.
