6 Food Poisoning Symptoms

Vomiting

Vomiting is one of the most frequent symptoms of food poisoning. The body in a bid to protect itself attempts to push out the toxin, thereby initiating the vomiting reflex. It is often caused by the irritation of the mucosa in the stomach or esophagus. On few occasions, it results in this consequence when the toxins penetrate the central nervous system. The vomiting induced by food poisoning will be most likely to occur when following a meal (a notable exception is when the infective organism is Salmonella), and the diarrhea may not start until much later. It also might occur in combination with diarrhea and abdominal pain, which is most likely suggestive of food poisoning. When such combination presentation occurs, it is best to present at a hospital where a proper diagnosis can be arrived at and treatment can be initiated immediately.
