6 Food Poisoning Symptoms

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is one of the most common frequent symptoms of food poisoning, usually occurring in combination with vomiting and abdominal pain. It is mainly of two types, inflammatory and non-inflammatory. [4]

The inflammatory diarrhea occurs when there is invasion of the mucosa along the gastrointestinal tract by the toxins released by the microorganism causing the poisoning. This leads to the production of stools that are both bloody and mucoid, it is usually associated with fever. Non-inflammatory diarrhea on the other hand occurs due to the irritation of the mucosa by the toxins of the infective organism, unlike inflammatory diarrhea, it is characterized by watery and non-bloody stool and there is more tendency for dehydration due to loss of water from the watery stool.
