Painful Cramps during Menstruation and Bruising

Severe cramps before and during menstruation may be due to a lack of calcium. Without calcium, blood cannot clot properly, causing heavy bleeding during menstruation. The authors of a systematic review [10] concluded that low levels of vitamin D and calcium during the second half of the menstrual cycle contribute to the development of painful Post Menstrual Syndrome [11] (PMS) symptoms. The group suggested using dietary supplements to relieve symptoms. Late puberty in teenage women is also a symptom of calcium deficiency. Low calcium level leads to easy bruising. Calcium is involved in blood clotting when a blood vessel bursts. With calcium deficiency, bruising is harder to heal and it looks more severe even after minor injuries or bruises because small capillaries bleed under the skin.
