Types of Celiac Disease

According to the world gastroenterology organizations, celiac disease can be classified into two types: classical and non-classical.
Classical Celiac Disease and Non Classical Celiac Disease
Patients with classical celiac disease have symptoms of absorption such as diarrhea, steatorrhea (pale, foul-smelling, fatty stools) and weight loss or inability to grown in children.
In non-classical celiac disease, patients experience gastrointestinal symptoms without any obvious signs of malabsorption or could experience almost unrelated symptoms. in most cases, they suffer from abdominal distention and pain or other symptoms such as iron-deficiency anemia, chronic fatigue, chronic migraine, peripheral neuropathy (tingling, numbness or pain in the feet or hands), unexplained chronic hypertransaminasemia (elevated liver enzymes), herpetiformis (itchy skin), dermatitis [5], reduced bone mass and bone fractures and vitamin deficiency (B12 and folic acid), difficulty losing weight, late menarche or early menopause and unexplained infertility, dental enamel defects, anxiety and depression.
