Silent Celiac Disease

It is also known as asymptomatic celiac disease. In silent celiac disease, patients do not complain about any symptoms, but still have villous atrophy damage in their small intestine. Experts say that even though patients think they have no symptoms, after going on a strict gluten-free diet they experience better health and a decrease in acid reflux [6], abdominal bloating and distention and flatulence.

First-degree relatives should be screened, even if they are not seeing any symptoms. Because there is a 1 in 10 risk that they may have celiac disease. Second-degree relatives and families with more than one individual with celiac disease also have higher risk of having the disease.

Celiac disease can affect patients in different due to lack of adequate training in medical school and primary care residency. These factors are responsible for the poor diagnosis level in the United States.
