Different Types And Signs of Muscular Dystrophy

Becker Muscular Dystrophy

The symptoms of muscular dystrophy resemble those of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It also mostly affects boys. The difference is that the symptoms are much milder and do not progress as fast as Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Muscle weakness and other symptoms of this disease usually start later. They may begin in the teenage years [4] of an affected person or start in the person’s twenties. Unlike people with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, they usually do not require a wheelchair until they are in their mid-thirties or older. Most people with the disease live up to middle age or more. A minute fraction of people with this condition never need a wheelchair.

Along with most signs of Duchenne’s dystrophy, people with this condition may also notice that they:

  • Fall often
  • Have difficulty getting up when they fall
  • Experience muscle cramps frequently
  • Walk on their toes

Becker muscular dystrophy is also a common type of muscular dystrophy.
