What attracts termites?
Termites find their way into homes and other buildings with the aim to eat through the wood within the structure. Their bite weakens the wood and makes it unstable. There are several ways to prevent and mitigate termite infestations. Some of which includes:
- Seal wood surface in new construction
- Build a barrier between a concrete foundation with space between soil and wood in new construction.
- Take proper care and maintenance of the outside of your home and fill in any cracks or holes that appear on the exterior
- Ensure proper drainage is built in your yard and the area your home’s foundation
- Prevent the buildup of water in or around your house
- Avoid stacking woods near your house
- Cut back any plants that may be near the opening in your house
- Inspect your house for termites regularly, looking for holes in woods or the insects themselves. You can hire an exterminator for this.
