Medically Treating HS

Currently, there’s no cure for HS. Yet with the appropriate course of medication and lifestyle changes, you can learn to control your symptoms and improve the quality of your life.
Clearing up present flares, minimizing scars and tunnels, and averting future outbreaks are the objectives of HS treatment. Options include:
- Medication that has been recommended by a medical practitioner. They include biologics, corticosteroids, [3] hormone therapy, [4] birth control, and medications used to treat immune system-related illnesses.
- Tunnel wound dressing. Your doctor may use dressings to speed up the healing process because HS causes lesions to develop beneath your skin.
- To remove lesions, use energy, light, and laser sources. Although there is less evidence for these treatments’ efficacy and they are less common, some people with moderate to severe disease may find that they lessen breakouts. The Nd:YAG laser [5] is the most powerful way of these.
- Surgery for flares that are really severe or painful. In some cases, your doctor could advise surgery to drain, laser, or remove painful or severe nodules or tracts that could be infected.
There are also some changes that you can make to your lifestyle that can help in recovering from HS. Making such changes in addition to your medical treatment can speed up your healing process.
