How to prevent food poisoning

The major cause of food poisoning is bad hygiene during food handling. Foods that lead to food poisoning may vary, but the same methods are required for prevention. You can prevent food poisoning through the following ways:
- Keep raw and cooked food separate at all times.
- Hot foods should be maintained above 140 degrees F, and cold foods should be stored below 40 degrees F.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water before and after preparing food, as well as after handling each different kind of food.
- Stay away from foods that have been stored at room temperature for more than two hours.
- Refrigerate leftovers promptly.
- Use a food thermometer and be sure to cook meat thoroughly and at adequately high temperatures (165 degrees F for chicken and turkey, for example).
- Use separate cutting boards for raw meats and vegetables.
