Bladder Suspension Surgery – What You Need to Know

What Is a Bladder Suspension Surgery and Who Should

Be Recommended?

Bladder suspension surgery is done to place sagging bladder back into its normal position to stop urine leakage. It involves cutting into the abdomen and lifting the neck of the bladder to return it to its typical position.

The stitching of the neck of the bladder to the lifted position to secure it to nearby structure is known as colposuspension [2]. The surgeon may also place a midurethral sling under the urethra during the surgery. The sling helps support the urethra and the bladder and provide increased bladder outlet resistance.

Bladder suspension surgery would be recommended if you have moderate to severe stress incontinence that does not get better after behavioral and physical therapy, medications, electrical stimulation, and Kegel exercises.

Bladder suspension surgery is mostly recommended of your stress incontinence is due to menopause, childbirth, surgery, bladder or urethra muscle problem.

Your doctor will also first ensure that your symptoms are for a fact due to stress incontinence before recommending bladder suspension surgery.
