Symptoms That Mean You Need Bladder Suspension Surgery

If your symptoms of stress incontinence persist after conservative treatment, you might need surgery. The main symptom of stress incontinence is urine leakage during certain types of physical activities that puts pressure on the bladder, activities such as laughing, sneezing, exercising, jumping, coughing and sexual activities.

Urine leakage may occur due to a weak sphincter muscle, which control urine flow or changes in the angle of the urethra. The Urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside of the body. It can also be caused by damage to the nerves of the bladder or the nervous system by certain health conditions such as Parkinson’s disease [3], diabetes [4], stroke [5] and multiple sclerosis [6].

Some people are at more risk of having stress incontinence than others. For example, older people because of the weakening of muscles, females, women after birth, and people with certain underlying conditions.
