Research shows that lung cancer is one of the most popular types of cancer in the world and it is responsible for the increase in mortality rate in the United States and other commercial countries. Emphysema refers to the changes that occur in the lungs of people who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Contrary to popular opinion, it is not a type of lung cancer.

Emphysema and Lung cancer are both lung diseases with similar risk factors. Studies show that more than 60% of people with these conditions smoke cigarettes regularly. COPD is a vital risk factor for lung cancer. Studies show that lung cancer is responsible for the changes that occur in the functions structures of emphysema. This article will discuss the relationship between lung cancer and emphysema.
