Treatments for Marfan Syndrome

It is impossible to eradicate Marfan syndrome permanently, but treatments help reduce the effects of several symptoms. Its effect is seen in so many organs of the body, so we will be looking at treatments for each organ that Marfan syndrome affects.

Cardiovascular Treatment

The Aorta of patients with Marfan syndrome grows abnormally large, exposing them to so many heart conditions. Regular checkups such as echocardiogram that uses an ultrasound scan to depict images of the heart help to notice this effect on time. People diagnosed with Marfan syndrome always have hypotension (low blood pressure) [5], so if heart condition persists after a while, then medical doctors prescribe drugs such beta-blockers, losartan, irbesartan, and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) that help to regulate heart rate and decrease blood pressure, sometimes heart surgery (changing the heart) is done, to avoid dissection of the Aorta and rupture of the valve.
