What causes aneurysms?

Researchers are yet to find an exact cause [16] for this condition.
Aneurysms can appear in any part of the body. Although scientists know that this usually develops due to a weakness in the walls of the blood vessels, they do not know for sure what causes the walls of the affected arteries to weaken. Several conditions and lifestyle choices are thought to contribute to this. These predisposing conditions are known as risk factors.
In less common cases, aneurysms are present at birth due to arterial defects during development.
