Signs and Symptoms of Inflammation

Inflammation is mainly characterized by a change in the function of the affected part in a healthy person. In some cases, inflammation can be a helpful in killing foreign substances. Heat, swelling and tenderness that accompanies inflammation leaves when the infection or virus has gone. A typical example is when there is a small infection from a cut or scrape causing the affected part to become tender, pink and swollen. After a while, the affected part goes back to its normal appearance as the body fights off infection.

People with inflammatory arthritis, have something wrong with the response of their immune system to invasion. Their immune system is unable to self-regulate and in se cases, turns against itself. This is the meaning of “auto-immunity”. Several types of inflammatory arthritis depict auto- immune disease, where the body cannot differentiate between its own healthy cells or tissue and an invader. Autoimmunity refers to situations where the immune system fights against its owner. Because of this, Inflammation happens in places where it is not needed and can affect the tissues in the joint.

The major manifestation of inflammatory arthritis is pain, stiffness and restricted movement in the joint or the spine. In some cases, you might experience fatigue. Inflammatory arthritis can be treated using drugs, it can also go into the remission stage if treatment starts early.
