7 Symptoms of Torn Meniscus

Feeling That the Knee Can Not Support the Body

Often with a torn meniscus, you may often feel like the knee wants to give way and cause you to fall. A torn meniscus can result in you feeling like you want to buckle under your weight, the inability to normally move your knee, or constant knee pain. There are several different forms of meniscal tears, but the larger ‘bucket handle’ type tears are typically those attributable to the giving way of the knee. [7]

Meniscal tears are typically generated by twisting motions under load. They can also be sustained from forceful moves, but often they can arise from a motion as simple as standing up from sitting. For certain patients, it may seem like the back of the knee wants to give way.

Younger people will typically experience acute meniscal tears, and these are more likely to be larger tears like the bucket handle types. You will become more prone to developing osteoarthritis in the injured knee.
