8 Treatments for Bone Spurs

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy may involve exercises and stretches [5] are also often part of physical therapy. These are designed to strengthen muscles around joints with bone spurs, reduce pain, and improve range of motion.

A combination of exercises and posture training can help take pressure off affected joints and reduce nerve root compression.

Rest

Physical activity can worsen inflammation in your joints. Taking short breaks to rest can help reduce this inflammation [6]. It gives the inflammation ample time to subside.

Ice

Ice is a common method of relieving pain and inflammation. Apply ice to the areas where your symptoms are present.  You can use an ice pack, wrap the ice in a towel, or use other forms of cold compress. Hold it in place for 15 to 20 minutes before removing it.

You should not apply ice for too long. You also should never apply ice directly on your skin as this can cause damage.
