8 Treatments for Bone Spurs

Medications

Pain and inflammation are the most common symptoms associated with bone spurs. Medications are often used to bring relief to the affected areas.

You can use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to treat spurs if your symptoms are particularly painful or are not relieved by lifestyle changes. These drugs are usually available in medicine stores and can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription.

Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, and Nuprin) and naproxen are common over-the-counter NSAIDs. You should only use these medicines if you need them. Do not exceed the recommended dosages as they can have negative side effects when overused. If NSAIDs don’t relieve your symptoms, you may need stronger medication or other types of intervention.
