Compression fractures

In some cases, the bone grows thinner during the initial stages of ankylosing spondylitis. Weakened vertebrae eventually crumble, increasing how serious the stooped fracture becomes.
Vertebrae fracture can put pressure on and potentially injure the spinal cord and the nerves that course through the spine. This complication must be treated immediately.
Heart problems
Ankylosing spondylitis can lead to problems in the aorta (great artery). The aorta is the biggest artery in the body. The inflamed aorta can grow to the point that it alters the shape of the aortic valve in the heart, which reduces its function. The aorta [4] pumps blood away from the heart to other parts of the body, so if its function is impaired, it is dangerous.
