Physical therapy

People with ankylosing spondylitis need to practice good standing posture. They should learn to stretch tight muscles and keep the spine stable. There are also other techniques used to reduce back pain. These things can be practiced at home under proper supervision. However, there are greater benefits when you work with a licensed therapist or with a group.
The range of motion and stretching exercises can help maintain the flexibility of the joints and preserve great posture. Adequate sleeping and appropriate walking positions can help correct posture defects.
Apply heat and cold
When heat is applied to stiff joints and tight muscles, the pains and stiffness are reduced. You can try pads and hot baths and showers. Placing ice on inflamed joints can reduce swelling.
