Causes of Avulsion Fractures

There is a risk that comes with playing sports. Contact sports like boxing, football, lacrosse, and basketball for example are the most common cause of avulsion fractures. The reason is that, contact sports involve movements that stress and exerts pressure on your limbs, including:

  • Sprinting
  • Suddenly changing location
  • Leaping kicking
  • Hitting, as in a boxer or a defensive lineman I’m a football player hitting an offensive player to protect the quarterback.
  • Suddenly accelerating or decelerating
  • Sliding as a baseball or softball player into home base or a slide tackle from a football player.
