Studies show that the risk of transmitting the condition during pregnancy is the same as the general population. However, research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention discovered that 11 factors contribute to making a pregnant woman more susceptible to contamination.
- Ingesting raw vegetables outside of the home
- Owning a cat
- Cleaning a litter box
- Drinking unpurified water from a contaminated source
- Gardening
- Coming into contact with soil
- Washing kitchen knives infrequently
- Having poor hand hygiene
- Traveling outside of Europe, Canada, or the United States
- Eating raw or unwashed vegetables or fruits
- Eating raw or undercooked pork, mutton, lamb, beef, or minced-meat products
